‘My Mother quite recovered.

Your wish in respect to a legal consultation has been anticipated. We know and care as little about formalities as you do.

I am just desired by my Uncle to give you a message – that it will gratify him very much to have the honour of knowing you.

In the meantime he requests you to accept his best regards.

Mrs. Leigh’s letter makes me feel as if I were well acquainted with her… I rely much on the countenance of letters, and her’s look most kindly.

Some of the newspapers still refuse their consent to our marriage – they use me very ill…

A feeling that it is almost useless to write a long letter – that you will hear the rest very soon – is the most welcome check to my communications…

Shall I not see you in the same room where I am now writing?
