Shy and Timid? I’m SO Jealous!

Seaham Hall (October 19 1814)

Convinced that I was not fitted to be your wife – that the measure and temperature of our minds were in some points too different, in others too similar – if you still were inclined to love me, was it not my duty to prevent it?

I think this will be the last letter you receive from me.

If you are so much alone and not always busy, why have I not had more of your thoughts?

I shall be jealous of the Maccaw.

In my last letter to Mrs. Leigh I asked if it were possible, that she would make us a visit.

Could it be?

There is no one with whom I would sooner share your society.

Perhaps you could make some arrangement with her, if she would come to her sister here.

Is she not shy and timid?

Her letters look so.
