‘Convinced that I was not fitted to be your wife – that the measure and temperature of our minds were in some points too different, in others too similar – if you still were inclined to love me, was it not my duty to prevent it?
I think this will be the last letter you receive from me.
If you are so much alone and not always busy, why have I not had more of your thoughts?
I shall be jealous of the Maccaw.
In my last letter to Mrs. Leigh I asked if it were possible, that she would make us a visit.
Could it be?
There is no one with whom I would sooner share your society.
Perhaps you could make some arrangement with her, if she would come to her sister here.
Is she not shy and timid?
